The Twin Cities of Minneapolis and Saint Paul are a bustling hub for residents and visitors in Minnesota. The Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport (MSP), less commonly known as Wold-Chamberlain Field, is a joint civil-military public-use international airport and one of the busiest airports in the United States providing people with transportation to and from the cities.

The airport is located within 10 miles of both downtown Minneapolis and downtown Saint Paul. It hosts commercial flights from major American and some international airlines, but it also hosts flights for several US Air Force and Minnesota Air National Guard operations.

The Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport started in 1919 as Speedway Field when local groups came together to renovate the former Twin City Speedway race track. The first hangar was constructed in 1920 for airmail services. In 1923, the airport was renamed Wold-Chamberlain Field. In 1928, the Minneapolis Park Board took possession of Speedway Field. In 1929, passenger services began being offered. In 1944, it was renamed Minneapolis-Saint Paul Metropolitan Airport; the word “International” replaced “Metropolitan” four years later, in 1948.

MSP Airport has two terminals, each offering services and amenities for travelers in transit. The Lindbergh Terminal, named after the aviation pioneer Charles Lindbergh, is the primary terminal and handles the majority of domestic and international flights. The Humphrey Terminal serves as a hub for regional and low-cost carriers.
